A Theology of Humility
What about Flexible Faith?
While reading my children Aesop’s Fables, I came across an ancient nugget of wisdom, “The Oak and the Reed.” What we find in this text and all its retellings is that flexibility is good, godly, and heavenly. It also tells us flexibility is intimately connected to humility.
Flexibility makes us strong, helps us persevere, and gives us humility.

The lack of flexibility has corrupted our souls and destroyed our evangelism. I believe this is the very reason so many ignore the call to repentance: our churches reject flexibility, focus on non-essentials, and are filled with self-righteousness and pride. This hubris results in a hardness of heart that plagues God’s people. We can combat this by practicing flexibility. This is what we will learn together; how to be flexible and grow in humility without compromising our convictions.
